Birmingham Christmas market
One of Birmingham’s greatest attractions at this time of year is the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market and Craft Fair. With over 180 beautiful stalls all selling the best Christmas has to offer in gifts and souvenirs, why not come and spend some time shopping or just looking as do the millions every year at this wonderful season. There is also, as always, the best German food anywhere.
An international Christmas attraction
The Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market has enjoyed great success in recent years. Birmingham Christmas Market is the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria. Every year more than 2 million people visit this wonder place, guaranteed an experience that you cannot afford to miss out on this year. The market is open from 13 November to 23 December from 10.00am to 9.00pm daily.
A multitude of Christmas gifts
People from all over the region and neighboring countries come to Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market to purchase traditional and handmade gifts, including ceramics, candles, and glasswork, jewelry and of course Christmas decorations. There is also a good bit of sellers that feature actual traditional German items such as toys and nativity scenes and marionettes for Christmas.
The taste of Christmas
The Market’s visitors are also able to sample the traditional tastes of German mulled wine, grilled sausages, German beer, and for those with a sweet craving there is gingerbread and marzipan sweets. To make the visit even sweeter a range of German pastries and breads are baked on site everyday.
The history of this authentic like German Christmas market dates back to about the year 1393 when the streets of Germany were beaming with the type of celebration around the Christmas season.
History of the market
Also the history of this market has a lot to show for the medieval times when the market was solely for burghers of that time period and the items made by the craftsmen were only for the locals. Some of the most favorite things bought by these locals were children’s toys, hand carts, handmade dolls and hobby horses.
Today’s Birmingham Christmas market
Today much of the original sweets and items can be found at the market and purchased to be taken home to your loved ones to enjoy as did the early children of the day and age. Information for the market is as follows. Venue: Victoria Square and New Street Date: Thursday 12 November – Wednesday 23 December (Craft Fair from 19 November) Time: 10am – 9pm Tel: 0121 464 2012

Will the market be running this year, and does it run in other areas of the country, as it sounds like something I would like to attend.

I’ve been to the German Christmas markets and have absolutely enjoyed myself! This one in Birmingham looks amazing! Hoping to go to the one in Glasgow this year. Best bit about Christmas Market - they run for weeks. Gives you the opportunity to visit more than one city!

This Christmas market looks so nice! I’ve been to some Christmas markets in The Netherlands and Germany, but never in the U.K.
Is there someone that has been to a market in Germany as well as the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market? What are the actual differences? Maybe I should go and find out myself
