Christmas in Ireland

The rolling Ireland countryside and pubs galore, Ireland is a magical place for spending Christmas.
Ireland is a country of green rolling hills, lakes, and deep seated traditions. Christmas is celebrated with plenty of fairs, festivals, and unique tourist sites decorated with authentic costumes and decorations. A country that loves their fine whiskey and food, Ireland is a great place to spend Christmas. Be forewarned that if you are a visitor to the country without friends or family you will have to find some things to do on your on as most places will be closed around Christmas Day.
Dublin has plenty of fun Christmas activities
As the capital of the Republic of Ireland and the largest city in the country, there are a lot of traditional activities that take place during the Christmas season. One of the most widely viewed attractions is the 12 Trees of Christmas. These trees are designed by fashion designers, artists and celebrities and are set up at the CHQ Building at the Docklands through December 15th. The Bray Concert Band offers a Christmas show that includes music from movie musicals as well as Christmas carols or you can attend a show by the New Dublin voices. Plus there are a variety of Christmas markets throughout the city with items ranging from food to unique items and gifts.
Enjoy a traditional Irish Christmas Dinner?
You may be very surprised to know that the traditional Irish Christmas dinner includes the usual fare to be found all over the world, as well as spiced beef served hot or cold, mince pies, Christmas pudding, and brandy or rum sauce. Don’t be surprised to see additional plates set at the table by your Irish hosts. This is their way of preparing for unexpected visitors as a remembrance of Mary and Joseph at the stable.
The country almost shuts down for three weeks
Visitors to Ireland will be very limited in what they will be able to do during this time. There are some places that will be open and you will be able to enjoy everything Ireland has to offer. Many of the bed and breakfasts, guest houses, inns, and even self-catering options will not be available. Your options are limited but the following places will be available during this time of year:
