Christmas in Scotland
*
Visit the land of kilts, Haggis, and the Loch Ness Monster for a traditional Scottish Christmas like you have never experienced before. The sound of Christmas carols on a bagpipe will be memorable.
The country of Scotland is one of the most beautiful lands in the world. It is filled with mysterious Lochs, rolling moors, and Highland games that test the mettle of the world’s men. At one point in time, celebrating Christmas was outlawed in the country, the New Year’s holiday being more important than Christmas. Today, the holiday is much more like you would find it everywhere else and the country offers you a romantic holiday getaway that is more than memorable.
Edinburgh Christmas
Starting in Edinburgh, visitors to the country can enjoy the Winter Wonderland that is set up in the city’s Princes Street Gardens. It includes an ice skating rink, carnival rides, ice art gallery and other attractions. You can enjoy a hot chocolate of mulled cider drink while taking it all in. The city also offers quite a few outdoor Christmas markets for you to find gifts and other unique items.
The annual Edinburgh Hospice Christmas Fair is also held at this time and all the proceeds go to charity. You can also enjoy a live performance of ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’ in Leith, just outside the city and the reading includes a sixteen piece live band, airborne fairies, Father Christmas, flying toys, and fireworks. Before leaving Edinburgh, make sure you enjoy the Choir of St. Andrew’s and St. George’s Church.
Christmas walking tour
For something unusual, why not enjoy a walking tour of Scotland?
You can enjoy a guided or self-guided tour through the Highlands and base your trip out of the best hotels in Fort William. The walking tour takes you through the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way. You can enjoy Christmas dinner at the hotel and the staff can suggest a variety of different walks or to use one of the hotel’s minibuses. If you wish to experience a true Scottish Christmas church celebration, you can enjoy one of the local midnight masses. Christmas morning, you can take a guided walk along the Caledonian Canal and Loch Linnhe and simply take in the atmosphere of the relaxing day.
Visit the Christmas Market in Glasgow
The traditional Christmas Market on Argyle Street or in St. Enoch Square offers you plenty of international stalls to choose from as well as Scottish craftsmen and women. You can go home with hand tatted lace, tartan blankets, and yummy sweets to share with your friends and family. There are also a few carnival rides available for the children to enjoy before leaving the land of Nessie and a memorable vacation.
