Christmas shopping is fun but can be really stressful especially if you find yourself shopping the last minute and with still more than half the people in your list without gifts.
The funny thing is that although everyone knows how hard it is to shop for Christmas gifts and still come up with a meaningful one people still end up scrambling around for that last minute Christmas gift. Though it is still a little early in the season and you can avoid the stress of shopping for Christmas gifts with too little time, in case you do put it off and find yourself with too little time, here are a few ideas on how to find or create the perfect last minute Christmas gifts.
The first thing you should do is to make sure that you didn’t forget to put anyone on your Christmas list. Even if you barely have enough time left make the time to sit down and go over your list.
Categorize the people on your list. To make your last minute gift shopping easier group the people on your list according to age group. Except for the ones closest to you, you can simply give the same gift to everyone in each age group. The ones closest to you will of course warrant a special gift.
Assign gifts per group. Babies are the easiest to shop for since you can give anything from cute pillows to burp cloths. Kids are also quite easy to shop for. Ideal gifts are stuffed toys for the little ones, puzzles, arts and crafts sets for older kids, and age-appropriate video games for almost anyone. Teenagers are a bit harder to please so make sure you don’t give anything tacky. Although not very personal gift certificates are a great idea for teenagers since they get to choose whatever they want. For your adult friends food and/or wine is always a safe bet. Or you can also give them gift certificates to their favorite stores or give them a one year subscription to a magazine you know they like.
When looking for last minute Christmas gifts the problem is that the gifts do become generic looking and the amount of thought you put into it shows. To offset the fact that you barely had time to think things through it is a good idea to have the gifts personalized. The internet is a great place to shop since you will need less time hopping from one online store to the next and many online stores offer free personalization. In case you have just a few hours or minutes left though fess up and just print out IOU cards. You can also give yourself as a gift and print out “coupons” as gifts where you can pledge to cook someone a meal, baby sit, rake someone’s yard, or give your special someone a massage.
