A Holiday Make-Over for Your Home
Christmas is right around the corner and its time to think about sprucing up your house for the holiday season. Your guests will appreciate it and you’ll be delighted as to how much improved your house will look.
A good cleaning
It doesn’t take an interior decorator to make your home lovely for the holidays. Start by going from room to room and tidying up the cluttered areas. A good cleaning is a good beginning for the home make-over.
Decorating the entryway
Once you’ve cleaned, you can begin in the foyer or entryway to your home. Decorate the front door with wrapping paper to look like a package or hang some reindeer bells and/or a wreath. This sets the tone for your guests when they arrive. Your foyer should be warm and inviting. Lay out a festive mat or rug and use garland around the inside of the door. Put a candle on a small table and light it when guests are expected.
A festive living area
Your living area can be so much more than just a Christmas tree. Put out festive, fragrant candles and reduce interior lighting. Don’t forget to light up the Christmas tree when guests are expected. Put out Christmas figurines and decorate your mantle if you have one. Take out any unnecessary clutter from the living room and put in a few folding chairs for when you have a great many guests over. Find a wall or use the mantle to decorate the area with Christmas cards you receive during the season.
Christmas atmosphere in the kitchen
In the kitchen, put out mulled spices such as cinnamon sticks, cloves and nutmeg in a crock pot or on a small pan on the stove set to low. This makes the entire house smell like Christmas all day long.
The bathroom
Decorate the bathroom with Christmas-themed tea towels, Christmas soap, and scented candles. This is a pretty change to your bathroom and your guests will be amazed. Light the candles and put out some potpourri for the best that Christmas has to offer.
The kids’ rooms
If you have kids, buy them storage boxes or make them out of decorated cardboard boxes. Have them reduce the clutter by putting their toys away in a storage box. Hang some mistletoe above their doorway for a little holiday touch.
The guestrooms
Brighten up guestrooms with festive rugs or a new duvet cover. Change a dusty old lampshade to something warm and inviting and get rid of the clutter in the room. Your guests will definitely feel at home with the new make over.
