Christmas in Cambridge
Known all over the world as THE university town, Cambridge is one place that Christmas enthusiasts should visit during the holiday season.
Cambridge offers a host of activities and events with its own brand of unique charm that only an academe town can provide. Located about 50 miles northeast of London, Cambridge is easily accessible.
Christmas at the Colleges
For a one of a kind experience, visitors should attend the Festival of the Nine Lessons and Carols in the King’s College Chapel. This will be held at Christmas Eve. This being a very popular event, it is suggested that visitors be in queue by 9 am of the said day. There are no tickets issued for the festival and seats are acquired on a first come first served basis.
On Christmas Day itself, the Sung Eucharist service is held at the King’s College Chapel. Carols as sung during this service. Again, no tickets are issued but visitors are more than welcome once the college members their guests have taken their seats.
Ice skating
For many people, the Christmas season is not complete without an ice skating adventure. For the first time, Cambridge is having its very own outdoor skating rink. This is located on Parkers Piece and will be in operation from 24 November to 6 January. It will be closed on Christmas Day.
Christmas Light Switch-on
Another essential element of Christmas celebrations all over the world is the Christmas light. In Cambridge, people think no differently. They had this year’s Switch-on last 18 November in the Market Square. For those who missed this exciting event, it will still be a delight to view the lights in the Market Square.
Guided Christmas Walking Tours
One of the best ways to discover Cambridge is simply by walking around and enjoying the sights. Even better, visitors can sign up for guided walking tours this Christmas. These tours operate daily throughout December, except for Christmas Day itself.
Santa Run in Cambridge
This year, The Grafton is sponsoring the first Santa Run on 16 December. This event is actually a fund raising 2 km run with the East Anglican Children’s Hospice as the beneficiary.
Santa at the Museum
Children of all ages can find Santa on the 15th of December at the Cambridge and Country Folk Museum. With a Victorian ambiance, children will receive gifts and participate in the hunt for Santa’s boots.
