Christmas in Manchester

With a long history relating to the industrial revolution, Manchester is also known all over the world for its association with football. Of course, Manchester is not left behind when it comes to Christmas celebrations.

Christmas Light Switch-on

Manchester switched on its Christmas lights to signal the beginning of the season early in November – the 8th, in fact. This was held at Albert Square, with accompanying music, entertainment, and fireworks. For those who missed the occasion, the lights and entertainment are still available.

Christmas Markets

For many people, Christmas shopping is just as important as all the other events associated with the season. The city of Manchester has a lot of Christmas Markets to choose from. During this time of the year, wooden chalets changes the whole city as Christmas Markets are set up in Albert Square, St. Ann’s Square, Exchange Street, New Cathedral Street, and Brazennose Street.

Christmas shoppers from all over Europe will definitely enjoy the experience as they go from shop to shop, each with its unique offerings. Food, drink, exhibits, and other forms of entertainment are available for everyone. This year’s Christmas Markets run from 15 November to 19 December.

For those who are into jewelry, make sure not to miss the Dazzle display in the Town Hall in Albert Square. Jewelry enthusiasts can feast their eyes on everything that glitters that are on display. The quality of the jewelry for sale is nothing short of the best of Britain’s contemporary jewelry designers. Shoppers can choose from basic pieces of jewelry to chunky ones to statement pieces – take your pick!

On Ice at Piccadilly

The Piccadilly Gardens have been immortalized in nursery rhymes and continue to be one of the most visited venues in Manchester. On Ice at Piccadilly is running on its second year this year and continues to offer ice skating sessions to everyone. A session lasts for an hour and skate hire is included. If you want more, then you can go for more than a session.

After an exhilarating ice skating experience, you can lounge or stroll around and fill your stomach with wonderful treats. On Ice at Piccadilly runs from 8 November 2007 to 6 January 2008. By the way, this activity is quite popular so booking in advance is recommended.
