Managing your Weight over the Christmas Holidays
The ability to keep from feeling bloated or gaining weight is dependent on your willpower and your commitment to staying trim.
Holiday time is supposed to be a feast time. Everyone bakes and all enjoy everything from Christmas dinners to tasty desserts to alcoholic beverages.
Technically, the Christmas season lasts from Christmas to New Year’s Day but for many, it lasts longer than that with the lure of Christmas parties before Christmas and the reality of after-holiday leftovers.
Stay active
There are some things you can do to keep from regretting what you ate over the holidays. The first is to stay active during the holiday season and beyond. Get out for a daily walk and get that club membership up to date. The holidays are busy but not so busy that you can’t take an hour every couple of days to keep your figure svelte. Even choosing to park your car far from the door of the mall or store you’re shopping at and taking the stairs are a helpful start.
Drink a lot of water
Keep yourself fully hydrated when you exercise. Water helps keep the toxins flowing out of your body. When you drink sodas and liquor, your body gets dehydrated; it’s hard to get the most of your exercise when there isn’t enough liquid in your body. For every ounce of liquor you drink and for every cup of soda you drink, you should drink eight ounces of water to counteract the dehydration.
Give away those left overs cookies
In order to not get stuck with a lot of leftovers after Christmas parties or the holidays, be prepared with containers and aluminum foil to send most of the leftovers home with your guests. This keeps all of those leftover Christmas cookies and stuffing away from your hips and out of the picture.
You can keep enough for a meal or two but don’t expect to repeat the holiday feast day after day in the ensuing days. And your guests will be grateful to have taken something special home from the festivities.
